The West Buckland School Girls’ U16 hockey team have qualified to represent Devon in the Regional Preliminary tournament next month, after coming runners-up in the County Tournament yesterday.

In the group stages, they started with a win against Kingsley School, followed by a draw against Exmouth College, before losing to Blundell’s School. However, a good win against Mount Kelly saw them progress out of the group stages and into the semi-finals.

The semi-final match was a nail-biter, with the West Buckland team finally coming through 1-0 against Plymouth College, setting up a final against Blundell’s, with both teams qualifying for the Regional Preliminaries, to be held on 10th November.

Head of Hockey, Grant Ward, felt the girls deserved their place in the Regionals: “The girls showed great determination and levels of skill throughout the tournament, which they will need to take to the next stage.”
