The Year 8 French students produced some delicious Galette de Rois cakes this week, as part of their studies, looking at French traditions and customs. Translated as “The King’s Cake", this delicious French almond cake is found in all bakeries in France shortly after Christmas to celebrate Epiphany.
Tradition dictates that a little charm is put inside the cake and whoever finds it in their slice is the king or queen for the day and has to wear a golden crown.
The pupils were given the task of making the cake at home and their teacher Mrs Joly-Bloodworth was extremely pleased with the results. “I was lucky as several children brought me a piece of their fabulous cake to taste and I am pleased to say that they were all delicious! Bravo to all of them!”
