West Buckland School’s U13 boys’ hockey A team produced an excellent display to win the English Hockey inter-schools County tournament at Marjons on Monday 6th March and will now go on to the Regional tournament at Milfield later this month. The B team also had a great tournament, exceeding expectations to finish fourth overall.
The A team’s journey into the Regional round saw them score an outstanding twenty goals whilst keeping a clean sheet throughout the tournament. In the round robin stage after beating Exeter School Bs 2-0, they drew 0-0 with South Dartmoor and then beat St Boniface 30 and Plymstock 2-0.
They then advanced to the knock-out stages where they beat Mount Kelly 3-0, West Buckland’s B team 5-0 and then won the final beating Exeter School As, convincingly, 5-0.
The B team rallied after losing their first match 1-0 to Exeter School Bs, they beat King’s Hall 1-0, drew with Devonport 0-0 and beat Mount Kelly 1-0. They eventually lost to their school’s A team in the semi-finals.
Head of Hockey Grant Ward was delighted with the results. "The boys have been working hard all year to test themselves on the county setting, so for them to do this and both teams to perform so admirably is fantastic to see, and a huge credit for all the time the boys have spent out on the pitch. I hope the boys can take this forward to the regional rounds now".
