The new marquee, acquired with the help of generous donations from the Parents' Associatin and OWBA, graced the cricket field for the first time this week. Under beautiful blue skies and with tea laid out ready for the cricketers, it was a quintessential English scene, captured in the words of Head of Sport, Geoff Turner, who was umpiring the match.
"It is always a pleasure to host the XL club. A fixture where the manner of the game and the spirit of cricket is highly celebrated. Wednesday’s game proved no different with the result going down to the very last over. Unfortunately for the school they were unable to cling on as they were bowled out with just 2 deliveries remaining. As is customary the XL awarded a small bat to the man of the match on the school side and this went to Patrick Colville, for his fine bowling, 2 for 12 of 5 overs, backed up by a valuable innings of 19. Despite a disappointing result, a close and competitive game was enjoyed by all."
