The strength and depth of dance at West Buckland was on display in a spectacular Evening of Dance, marking a fitting finale to a very successful programme over the past year.
Dancers from Pre-Prep through to seniors gave really polished and creative performances in ballet, street and contemporary dance. Whilst there were a number of group and pair dances, there were a number of individual performances with the dancers showing such poise and confidence.
Many of the dances were choreographed by the students themselves and the music they chose ranged from the We’re Going on a Bear Hunt to Spice Girls Megamix!! The students were able to demonstrate the wide range of skills and disciplines that they have learned during the increasingly popular extra-curricular dance programme that the school runs for both Prep and Senior pupils.
The varied programme was directed and choreographed by Louise Coates who firmly believes in every school having a meaningful art education.
“In addition to giving our children the maths and science skills they need, we should also encourage the ability to think creatively that comes from a meaningful arts education.”
“The future belongs to young people with an education and imagination to create.”
Many thanks must go to all those behind the scenes who enabled this wonderful night to happen. These are Mrs Williams, Nicole Tse (lighting and technical) Mr Burstow, Mrs Witheridge, Mrs Regan, Mrs Cartmell and Miss Venner.
