Tennis Season Starts with a Flourish

The tennis season got off to the best possible start over the Easter holidays when Year 7s Toby Watts and Eddy Pope achieved the runners up position in the U14 North Devon Spring Open competition at Tarka Tennis Centre.

They overcame all the local opposition beating Ilfracombe rivals Joe Cooper and Cassius Clay in a thrilling 10-9 Championship tiebreak semi-final. In the final, the number one seeds, Chris Denton and Owen Young, from Cornwall proved just a little too strong winning in a Championship tiebreak 10-6. Toby also reached the semi-finals of the U12 event, losing out to the eventual winner, Harry Hunting, from Surrey 10-8 in a close run contest.

West Buckland’s tennis is going from strength to strength, thanks to a large extent to the on-going morning Tennis Programme that has seen pupils developing their skills and match-play from Prep age. We are hoping for a really successful tennis season, with a large number of excellent fixtures across the age groups, as well as the Aegon Championships.
