It was an excellent Ten Tors year for our pupils taking part this year, with both 35-mile teams having reasons to celebrate.

The boys came home amongst the top ten finishers out of a total over 250  35-mile teams who started, finishing at 0918 on Sunday morning. Team leader Nathan Chambers was very pleased to get his whole team across the finish line in one piece and in such good spirits. We believe the girls are celebrating the first all girls team for many years from West Buckland School. They worked hard through training as a team to improve their fitness and navigation in some pretty adverse conditions.

Jade Freeman did an excellent job of leading the girls' team over the finish line at 1215. Both teams looked extremely smart in their team tops and carried their school banners across the line with pride.

The greatest part of the day for the team manager, Mr Hathway, was having both teams safely back at base camp, swapping tales and sharing laughs and stories from their tremendous efforts. The headmaster Phillip Stapleton, who cycled the 34 miles from school to the event, with four other parents, shared in the comraderie with parents and family members celebrating the achievement of their sons and daughters. Mr Stapleton, on his first visit to Ten Tors, was impressed by the scale of the event and the outstanding logistics and safety procedures put in place by the Army. He also commented at how Ten Tors is such a family affair with many parents doing the event themselves. Rosie Higgs can now join this exclusive club with her other two sisters who have gone on to do 45 miles and 55 miles.

Many thanks and congratulations must go to all pupils, parents and school staff that have supported Ten Tors. For more photos, visit our Facebook page or contact Mr Hathway. We will be having an Adventure Society supper on June 21st to celebrate the success of the Ten Tor teams and all the activities of the Adventure Society. There will be a light supper followed by guest speaks to inspire pupils to do more adventurous activities.  More information to follow.
