The U16 Netball squad are North Devon champions after winning the area round of the England Netball National Schools competition.
Ten schools from across North Devon attended the event, and were split into two groups. The newly formed squad were drawn first against Shebbear College. Here the attack was led by captain, Grace Wilton, who helped her team put a convincing 13 goals past the opposition. This strong attacking performance was teamed with a formidable defensive unit of Phoebe Banbury, Charlotte Turner and Daisy Jefferies and meant that they also kept a clean sheet for their first match.
A 18-2 victory over Ilfracombe showed that the team were now in the swing of things with some creative through-court linkage from Holly Crosbie, Tiger Redmore and Kerry French. The penultimate game of the group was against Holsworthy where Katie Woods and Isobel Skinner had a chance to shine in attack, increasing their score record to 22-0. The final group game was against South Molton, which they won 22-1.
In the semi-final against Bideford College, the girls started the game confidently finished the match 15-1 winners.
The final was a nail-biter against local netball rivals Park School. After a close first half, the team dug deep and finished with a 8-6 win. The young team played some excellent netball and showed that all their hard work and early morning training had paid off! They now qualify for the County finals as area winners.
