Year 13 Kian Hayles-Cotton a Cadet Corporal in the West Buckland CCF was selected for the RCAC Leadership and Challenge Course to take place in the Rocky Mountains. Kian is currently out in Canada as part of the six week programme and camping in the foothills of the Rockies surrounded by mountains and forests. After two weeks, Kian has undertaken white water kayaking on Ghost Lake, progressing to the rapids on the Ghost and Red Deer River and surviving the infamous Black Mamba and Double Ledge rapids.

Next came trekking on the Mystic Trail and hiking and camping through the Banff National Park over high mountains surrounded by snow and craggy outcrops.

"So far, I've had a great time and would thoroughly recommend it to any cadet who is motivated and enjoys the outdoors."
