Whilst our GCSE and A level students are beginning their Art and Design Technology final exams, we thought we'd showcase a few of the fabulous pieces that they have produced.

The brief to the GCSE students was to  utilise materials that were no longer required in their present form and thus reduce the products carbon footprint.

Year 11 Jade Freeman has designed and made a functional seat using segments of an old teak science bench and offcuts of European ash.   Through the processes of computer aided design Jade has used 3D printing to model potential ideas and by working closely alongside a potential client she has been able to successfully manufacture this ergonomic and aesthetically piece.

Nathan Chambers has produced a striking computer desk using oak floor boards, offcuts of hardboard, veneer and reclaimed oak. The project brief allowed him to explore a wide range of designs and by using the schools industrial standard computer aided deisgn software he modelled and evaluated various options.

These are just some examples of the impressive work that our students produce and many have been entered into the North Devon Manufacturing Association awards and we will find out the results next week.

Year 12 students this week took part in a day of academic enrichment  as well as information gathering on university applications and gap year opportunities.

Academic staff from Aberystwyth University delivered talks on business, geography, biology, mathematics and psychology, which were also attended by students from three other local schools.

This is part of the on-going, varied and very informative enrichment programme that is offered to the Sixth Formers to make sure they are in a position to make informed decisions about their futures going forward.

We are delighted to announce that tickets for our spectacular production of Mozart's Requiem, at Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 23rd June, are now available from https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/476627

Following on from the unprecedented success of the similar performances of The Armed Man and Verdi's Requiem, this universally popular work will be sung by the West Buckland Choirs and West Buckland Chorus, and accompanied by the North Devon Sinfonia, under the leadership of Emma Kent.

We are also thrilled that the soloists performing will include former student and soprano, Ana Fernandez.

The concert is always extremely popular, so we encourage those interested in coming to book early!

cookery

Members of the Sixth Form were extremely 'hands on' with some survival cooking instruction and interesting nutritional advice, this week.

As part of their busy enrichment programme, the students made the most of our excellent Food and Nutrition room to produce some culnerary delights that will no doubt form the staples of their diets at university!

It was great to see such a big turn out of students and all of them enjoyed the experience.
