Our time at West Buckland School has been a happy one. Ed and Tom both joined at Nursery. We were first attracted to the school by the superb facilities which were set in relaxed and secure rural surroundings. The teachers and the setting gave the children a secure structure in which they were happy to learn both socially and academically. The strong parent/teacher relationships encourage children to take part in the extensive range of activities the school has to offer in new outstanding facilities such as the 150 Art building, Jonathan Edwards Sports Centre and Parker’s Sixth form boarding house. This, coupled with West Buckland’s teaching expertise has meant that activities such as art, sport, music and drama are taught at a very high level. Leadership roles are encouraged through schemes like the Duke of Edinburgh and CCF. There are numerous activities and events that showcase the school - Tom particularly enjoyed singing and acting in the musical productions of Guys and Dolls and West Side Story, while Ed was a keen member of the music department performing in the string orchestra, concert band, jazz orchestra and much more.
The sense of community at West Buckland combined with their education has resulted in them making strong friendship groups which have remained after school, meeting up and holidaying with their old school friends and taking part in the Old West Buckland Association sports events. The education the boys have received, from Nursery through to A-level, has not only been academic, of which we as parents are immensely proud, we believe they have left West Buckland rounded, respectful of others, self-confident and prepared to tackle the next stage of their lives.
