All children who join the Senior School are assessed to ensure that they meet the school’s entry criteria. Most children will take our Entrance Assessments. Past papers are available on request from the Registrar. These assessments take place in the January preceding a child’s entry to West Buckland in the Autumn Term.
- For those entering Year 7, the 11+ Entrance Assessments consist of papers in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning.
Children joining year groups other than Year 7, or if they have missed the January assessments, will be asked to come into school for a ‘taster’ day which will include time for assessments.
For students wishing to join the Sixth Form there is no separate entrance assessment. Assessment of an applicant’s academic ability will be based on GCSE results taken in the current school. Students attending schools in the UK will be required to pass five or more GCSEs at C grade or better, and will also meet the Headmaster and heads of department in subjects they wish to study at A-level.
Students applying for admission to West Buckland who are attending overseas schools will be asked to submit reports on their academic performance from their current school. Each application from overseas will be managed according to the individual circumstances of the student and family.
