Boyer is a modern, purpose-built boarding house for boys in Years 7 to 11. Boyer has a family atmosphere: it is a vibrant, welcoming and enjoyable house to live in where boarders from many different backgrounds and cultures make friendships which last long after they have left West Buckland.
It has spacious accommodation for approximately 45 pupils in a combination of shared study bedrooms (for years 10 and 11) and small dormitories for younger boarders.
Boyer has two comfortable Common Rooms with digital TV, DVD, pool table, board games, darts and kitchen facilities. There is also a games room where boys can play table-tennis and computer games, and a computer room where the boys can use Skype. A safe and restricted use of Wi-Fi is fitted all over Boyer for use on personal laptops which are locked away at bedtime.
Shaun Morrison is Houseparent of Boyer and, together with his Assistant Houseparent Kimberley Turner, makes Boyer a 'home from home' where the boarders feel happy, secure, relaxed and cared for.
Prep (homework) is done at a regular time every weekday evening and for the younger boarders this is done under supervision in the library.
The evenings after prep are spent socialising, playing sport, games or just relaxing. A number of activities are held in-house, including, pool, table-tennis tournaments and darts matches – with the weekly pancake evening a very popular feature of Boyer life! Easter and Christmas parties, summer BBQs and other events are just some of the highlights the boarders organise themselves with the help of the house staff.
