7 11

The Prep School at Key Stage Two (7-11 year olds) is based in a new building with excellent teaching facilities and six spacious classrooms. Pupils entering Year 3, aged 7, engage in a structured and differentiated timetable, which included all the traditional subjects and many others as well.

Our pupils in Years 4,5 and 6, aged 8-11, take full advantage of specialist teachers and resources. Class tutors are responsible for the academic welfare of the children. Tutors have daily contact with their tutees and continue to teach some of the core subjects to their class. The children are also introduced to a number of specialist teachers who will continue to teach them when they join the Senior School.

Tutors continue to teach the core subjects but there are also a variety of specialists who are able to spend time teaching their particular subject. This is a vital preparation for the transfer into the Senior School. Scholarships are available at 11+. Please contact us for further details.

My favourite part of the school day is:

“History and English because I want to write books when I am older and some of my favourite authors write about things in the past, just changing them a bit” – Chloe Yr5
“All the lessons because I want to learn” – Emma, Yr6

Our Pre-Prep provides a stimulating, caring and happy environment where 4-7 year olds develop their individual strengths, self-esteem, confidence and abilities. Pre-Prep pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes have their own distinct area within the Preparatory School and their own team of teachers and classroom assistants working under the leadership of the Head of Pre-Prep.

The early mastery of fundamental skills is crucial for future educational progress and every child receives a wealth of encouragement and is helped and guided towards achieving specific goals.

We place an emphasis on children enjoying their learning, embracing the outdoors, discovering new skills and receiving the best possible start to school life.

Our thriving co-educational Preparatory School has its own separate identity and its own special character. It is independent of the Senior School with its own teaching staff and Headmaster.

The pursuit of excellence and the desire to develop the full potential of each child are two fundamental aims of the school. The curriculum is broad and rich in content and the aim is to exceed the requirements of the national curriculum at all levels.

We also provide a safe, secure and caring environment for the children where they can enjoy their schooldays. Our school fosters natural curiosity and a love of all learning. It provides a broad foundation of academic skills and prepares the children for an active and purposeful life within the wider community.

“Pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Years 1-6 of the prep school achieve particularly high standards.”

My favourite part of the school day is:

“History because I like learning about old fashioned things” – Isaac Yr4
“History, English, Geography and Science because I’m really trying to learn a lot” – Summer, Yr6

The School has an excellent Nursery (3-4 year olds) which will make your child's first steps outside the home an exciting and productive adventure. The Nursery has its own special classrooms, art area, theme room, playground, wendy houses and garden area.

Children enjoy a safe, secure and homely environment in the Nursery. Our emphasis upon individual care inspires confidence and builds determination and self-esteem. We encourage and teach the importance of good manners, respect for others and responsibility.
