Art students at West Buckland enjoy outstanding facilities provided by the stunning 150 Building that opened in 2010.
The facilities enable the department to offer painting, sculpture and mixed media but also new opportunities in print, ceramics and photography, both digital and traditional. Sixth formers have their own art studio and art library. The design of the department has been produced by specialists who understand fully the needs of art students in the 21st century.
The department offers workshops in textiles, ceramics and jewellery. Exhibitions of work by professional artists are shown in the Long Gallery. Examples of work by students can be seen in our web gallery. The department is generally open during the conventional working day but also after school depending on staff commitments.
Visits are an important part of the syllabus and the Department makes regular trips to galleries in London and the Tate in St. Ives. An annual Art tour in February for Senior School pupils has taken us to Paris, Amsterdam, New York and Florence in recent years. We also run a programme of art residentials for students, which so far have included trips to Wales and Cornwall. View photos and artworks from the first art residential in Wales here.
In addition to our art teachers, we are pleased to have an artist in residence who as well as working on his own pieces, provides additional guidance, support and inspiration to students.
