Design and Technology is taught in brand new state of the art facilities in the 150 Building that boasts some of the latest technologies available to schools as well as in industry. The department consists of two fully equipped design workshops as well as a dedicated PC suite and computer aided design area that includes equipment such as a colour rapid prototype machine and laser cutter. Pupils are able to work with a full range of materials and are encouraged to explore their creativity by tackling a range of exciting projects.
Everyone involved prides themselves on the high standards expected and achieved by the pupils working in this thriving department.
The programme of study is designed to progressively introduce skills in designing and making, using resistant materials with individual outcomes that boost self-confidence, self-esteem and team work. The subject is a popular option for GCSE and A-level. The staff in the department offer the pupils the time and facilities outside of the curriculum to develop their individual skills with activities as varied as wood turning to theatrical set design.
